Vol. 171 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income-Tax: P.A.Y.E. System.

asked the Minister for Finance if he intends to introduce the system of P.A.Y.E. for the collection of income-tax on account of the hardships and abuses caused under the present system.

This question in all its aspects is, I understand, being examined by the Commission on Income Taxation and when I receive their report it will be given my earnest consideration.

Would the Minister indicate what proportion of the hardships mentioned by Deputy Fanning has been occasioned by the Government's financial policy?

Our predecessors' financial policy.

I asked the last time how much was due to the Revenue as a result of people leaving the country and I was told the answer was not available. Surely the Minister must know how much money is due?

That is not a question.

I should get an answer.

There is no question by the Deputy on the Order Paper.

There was last week.

Hear, hear!
