Vol. 171 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the present position with regard to the proposed new national schools for Laghey and Carrick, County Donegal.

The reverend manager has offered a suitable site for the erection of a new school at Laghey, County Donegal, and my Department is in communication with his solicitors in regard to the production of evidence of title to the site which is a necessary preliminary to the sanction of a grant towards the cost of the erection of the new school.

The reverend manager has offered a suitable site for the erection of a new national school at Carrick, County Donegal, and my Department is in communication with him in regard to certain arrangements which will have to be made before the Department will be in a position to sanction a grant towards the cost of the new school.

Would the Minister say if his Department is satisfied with the new site of the Carrick school, as offered?

I have not any information as to that. Usually it is a matter for the Board of Works to advise my Department.

I understand that negotiations have been going on for a considerable time and will the Minister endeavour to expedite the acquisition of the site?
