Vol. 171 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of State Cars.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the cost of each ministerial state car purchased during the past six months, to whom each was supplied, and the suppliers and the country of origin in each case.

The cars purchased during the period in question consisted of one Austin, supplied by Messrs. Lincoln & Nolan, for the use of the Taoiseach, and six Chevrolets, supplied by Messrs. McCairns Motors, for the use of the Tánaiste, the Ministers for Agriculture, Local Government, the Gaeltacht, Posts and Telegraphs and the Ceann Comhairle. The Austin car is of British and the Chevrolets of American origin. The cars were purchased through the Controller of Stores of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs which is the normal channel for such purchases and I am informed that it would be contrary to established practice to disclose the purchase prices.
