Vol. 171 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Housing Inspectors: Files Issued and Discharged.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state to the nearest date the number of files issued to and discharged by housing inspectors in the Cork area since the coming into operation of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1958.

The Housing (Amendment) Act, 1958, came into operation on 30th July, 1958. For the purpose of payment of the higher rate of private housing grants, however, the operative date is 30th June, 1958. The number of files in relation to private housing grant applications issued to housing inspectors in the Cork area between 1st July, 1958, and the week ended 22nd November, 1958, was 2,068. The number of files discharged by housing inspectors in the same period was 2,133.

Could the Minister give us any comparable figures for the years 1956 and 1957 which would show that activities in the Department either increased or decreased?

That is a separate matter.

Without giving any figures, there is a decided increase over the past couple of years.

Can the Minister state if instructions have been issued to his inspectors in that area to concentrate on the area outside Cork City to the detriment of the Cork City area?

There is no truth whatever in that suggestion.

I am sure Deputy Healy will be glad to hear that.
