Vol. 171 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification in Donegal.

13.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the E.S.B. will carry out a further canvass of rural electrification consumers on Owey Island, County Donegal; and whether they will include therein the three householders on the island of Lower Cruit.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Islands of Owey and Lower Cruit are included in the Rosses Rural Area, to which supply was extended under the Rural Electrification Scheme in 1955. During the development of the Rosses area the householders on these islands were given an opportunity of taking supply but they declined to accept supply on the terms offered. The board also state that the rates upon which supply can be extended to these householders under a post-development scheme are at present being worked out. When these rates have been determined and if it appears that acceptable terms can be quoted the board will have a re-canvass of the islands carried out, when each householder will be given a further opportunity of taking supply.
