Vol. 171 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Recommendations by An Bord Uchtála.

42.

asked the Minister for Justice what action he has decided to take on the recommendations made to him by An Bord Uchtála in their annual report for the year ended 31st December, 1957, concerning an amendment of the law to provide for (1) extending the existing upper age limit of seven years for the child, and (2) enabling a man to obtain an adoption order where, inter alia, he satisfies the board that (a) he and his wife had informally adopted a child before the date of the passing of the Act, viz., 13th December, 1952, (b) he is now a widower, and (c) he has continued to take care of the child since the death of his wife.

I hope to be in a position next Session to indicate the Government's decisions on these points.
