Vol. 172 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Workers' Wages.

17.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Kerry County Council has granted an increase in wages to road workers; and if he will now arrange to grant a similar increase to workers employed by his Department in the county.

I am aware that the Kerry County Council has granted an increase in wages to road workers.

Instructions have been issued for the granting of a similar increase to workers employed by the Land Commission in the county.

As regards forestry workers, I have already informed the House that the wages of these employees are no longer linked with those of county council road workers. Under the new basic wage system introduced for forestry workers—with effect from the first pay-day in January, 1958—as a preliminary to application of the incentive bonus scheme, forestry workers in County Kerry are being paid a basic wage of 110/- per week.
