Vol. 173 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pensions Means Test.

20.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether in order to alleviate the grave hardship existing among the aged poor, he will consider abolishing altogether the old age pensions means test or rendering it less stringent.

The Deputy's suggestion would not bring any advantage to the aged poor by which presumably he means the really necessitous class of old age pensioners. Accordingly the answer is in the negative.
