Vol. 173 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford and Tipperary Forestry Operations.

46.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the output per man in planting, draining and cleaning in (1) County Waterford and (2) County Tipperary; and how much bonus has been paid out in these areas over the past 12 months by the Forestry Division.

Figures on output on forestry operations on a regional basis as requested by the Deputy are without any real meaning since the costs of any individual operation will vary widely under the influence of ground conditions and other factors. Moreover, such figures could not be extracted without excessive consumption of staff time.

The incentive bonus scheme has not yet been applied at any forest in County Waterford. Up to the end of December, 1958, the scheme had been applied at eight forests in County Tipperary. The total of bonus earnings at these forests in the period was £4,363, representing an average bonus of £1 1s. 9d. per week for each of the men concerned.
