Vol. 173 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Duncannon Harbour Improvement Grant.

47.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the recent grant of £1,400 for the improvement of Duncannon Harbour is insufficient to render the harbour safe for sheltering boats; and if in view of the large number of boats using Duncannon he will increase the grant substantially.

Works for which a State grant of £725 (or half the cost, whichever is the lesser) was recently offered to Wexford County Council do not include the improvement of shelter at Duncannon Harbour. I do not consider that the cost of rendering the harbour safe for sheltering boats at all times would be justified; nor am I aware that a large number of boats use the harbour. Some improvement in berthage may be desirable and I shall have this aspect of the matter examined.

Is there no intention to do any work for the provision of shelter?

Not for the provision of shelter at all times.
