Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Dispensary Doctors.

16.

asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been brought to a statement that dispensary doctors in Limerick City are overworked owing to the numbers on their panel; and if he will make a statement on the matter; whether representations have been made either to him or the local authority by such doctors and, if so, if he will indicate their nature; and if he will state the average number of home visits made daily by such doctors.

My attention has been drawn to a statement alleging that the district medical officers in Limerick County Borough are responsible for the provision of general medical services for an excessive number of eligible persons. Representations have not been made to me by the doctors concerned but I am informed that three of the doctors made representations to the acting city manager on the 25th February and that he is examining the matter.

The local authority has informed me that information regarding the number of home visits is at present available only up to the 31st March, 1958. The average daily number of home visits to patients made during the six months preceding the 31st March, 1958, varied from 1.1 in the case of one doctor to 3.5 approximately in the case of another doctor.
