Vol. 173 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seaweed Animal Feeding Stuffs.

36.

asked the Minister for the Gaeltacht whether any investigation has been or is being made into the possibility of securing and developing markets for animal feeding stuffs produced from various types of seaweed; and, if so, what progress in this respect has been made to date.

Tá fiosrú ginearálta ar siúl ag mo Roinnse sa scéal seo. Níl mé in ann a rá go fóill cad é an toradh is dócha a bheas ar an bhfiosrú seo.

Could the Minister tell us when he is likely to be in a position to let us know?

Nilim inaon a rá faoi lálthair. I cannot inform the Deputy at the moment. There are marketing difficulties and there are a number of people, of private firms, engaged in this business.

May we take it that the Minister has taken into consideration the recommendations outlined in the Economic Survey recently made by the Secretary to the Department of Finance?

I have taken these matters into consideration, and the reference in that report is based also upon the interests of private industry in this development.
