Vol. 174 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bovine Tuberculosis Eradication Scheme.

15.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether there is a minimum permissible geographical area in which he is prepared to organise and facilitate the tuberculosis eradication scheme for cattle.

There is no minimum area, as is proved by the readiness of my Department to accept an individual farm for accreditation if it meets certain requirements. But where we operate on the basis of clearing a whole area simultaneously, practical considerations such as supervision and control of movement demand that the area be sufficiently big to be worth while. This is the main reason for choosing a county or a group of counties for clearance.
