Vol. 175 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Enfield (Meath) Bridge.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that many fatal accidents have occurred in recent years at Enfield Bridge, County Meath, and that Meath County Council have made every effort to have the bridge widened, but that difficulties have arisen with Córas Iompair Éireann who are involved in the matter; and whether he will enquire into the matter, and take whatever steps are necessary to have the work proceeded with urgently.

I am aware that the bridge in question is dangerous. Contract documents for its reconstruction were approved by my Department on 20th January, 1959, and the next step will be for the county council to invite tenders, after securing the agreement of C.I.E. I am not aware that the Meath County Council have experienced any difficulties with C.I.E. in the matter. I understand that they have recently asked C.I.E. as a matter of urgency to forward the draft agreement to them for approval.
