Vol. 176 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Expenditure on Imports.

5.

asked the Taoiseach what sum would have been required to purchase imports in May, 1959, or the latest available month, which could have been purchased in February, 1957, for £1.

Between February, 1957 and May, 1959 the official import price (unit value) index number declined by 9.1 per cent. On this basis it is estimated that 18/2 would, in May, 1959, have purchased at c.i.f. prices the same quantum of imports as £1 would have purchased in February, 1957.
