Vol. 176 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Company Holdings.

14.

asked the Minister for Finance whether any company of which he is a majority shareholder, or of which he appoints the directors under statutory power, has a majority interest in any other company and, if so, in what company.

Aer-Rianta Teoranta has a majority interest in Aer Lingus Teoranta and Aerlínte Éireann Teoranta.

As regards companies engaged principally in financial and investment business I consider that in principle the disclosure by me of the information sought by the Deputy would not be in the public interest or the interests of the companies and their clients. Such companies are independent bodies operating under the Companies Acts and normally, in the conduct of their affairs, should be allowed the full commercial freedom afforded by these Acts.
