Vol. 176 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Women Gardaí.

15.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of applications received for entry into the women's section of the Garda Síochána together with details of the occupations of the applicants.

178 applications for the competition to select women Gardaí were received by the Commissioner, Garda Síochána. Of these, 31 were rejected as ineligible on grounds of age or height. Only 52 candidates sat for the examination conducted by the Civil Service Commissioners. I am not aware of the occupations of the applicants as the application forms did not require these particulars to be given.
