24.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the total expenditure under the Health Acts by local authorities in each of the five financial years ended 31st March, 1959, and the annual State subventions.

The expenditure by local authorities in respect of which grants in accordance with the provisions of the Health Services (Financial Provisions) Act, 1947, are payable, is as follows:—

Year ended 31st March, 1955, £12,362,000; year ended 31st March, 1956, £14,047,000; year ended 31st March, 1957, £15,762,000; year ended 31st March, 1958, £16,178,000; year ended 31st March, 1959, £16,358,000.

The State subvention is 50 per cent. of these amounts.

The expenditure quoted in respect of the year ended 31st March, 1959, is based on partly estimated figures furnished by local authorities in the course of that year.

It has increased by £1,000,000 a year?

Not since 1957.
