Vol. 177 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waiting Period for Social Service Benefits.

25.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if it is his intention to introduce proposals during the present session to abolish the three day waiting period for unemployment benefit, unemployment assistance and sickness benefit.

26.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is prepared to reconsider his refusal of 4th December, 1957, to introduce proposals to remedy the situation whereby an unemployed person is subjected to the hardship of a three days' delay before he can obtain benefit under social welfare legislation.

With your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 25 and 26 together. It is not my intention to introduce proposals for the general abolition of the three day waiting period for unemployment benefit, unemployment assistance and disability benefit. I do, however, intend to introduce a proposal for the abolition of the three day waiting period in the case of persons transferring from unemployment benefit to unemployment assistance.
