Vol. 177 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Increased Garda Pensions.

8.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that the increased pensions payable to ex-members and widows of ex-members of the Garda Siochána have not yet been made; and if he will state the reason for the delay in the making of such payment, and the date or approximate date upon which such payment will be made.

The total number of cases involved is about 1,700. Revised rates of pension have now been determined in 1,400 of these, and any arrears due in such cases will be paid by the 1st November next. The other 300 cases will be cleared as soon as possible, and I expect that all arrears will be paid by the end of November next.

In view of the amount of work involved I am satisfied that there has been no undue delay.
