Vol. 177 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Airport.

9.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if pending the completion of the proposed Cork Airport, he is prepared to grant licences for scheduled services to any reputable airway companies who are prepared to operate during the 1960 tourist season.

It is expected that the contract for the construction of Cork Airport will be placed practically immediately and that the major works will be commenced very soon. It is expected that the Airport will be ready for use in 1961. The circumstances which have prevented the operation of scheduled air services to and from Cork have not altered nor is there any prospect that they will alter before the new airport is ready for use. I am, therefore, not prepared to permit the operation of scheduled air services at Cork until the navigational and other essential facilities have been provided.
