asked the Minister for Local Government whether in view of the Taoiseach's recent statement on Government policy in regard to the language revival he intends to introduce legislation to compel persons standing for election to the Dáil and the Seanad to have a competent knowledge of Irish, or, alternatively, to become within twelve months of election competent to speak Irish, in order that they may be in a position to discuss current legislation, in particular that relating to the enforcement of a compulsory Irish policy.
