Vol. 178 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Television Service.

41.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will recommend to the proper authority that the advantages of establishing a television service in Cork city contemporaneously with the Dublin service be investigated with a view to establishing such a service.

The acquisition and development of the Dublin transmitter site was put in hands several months before that step was taken for the other transmitting stations. So far as I can see, at this stage, it would seem impracticable to initiate a service in Cork contemporaneously with the Dublin service. However, when the statutory Television Authority has been set up and reviews the question of the erection of stations, they will, no doubt, take account of the point made in the Deputy's question in conjunction with other relevant factors.

I take it that there will be booster stations all over the country?

The decision in that regard will be taken by the proposed Television Authority when it is established.
