Vol. 178 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Mayo Lands.

19.

asked the Minister for Lands if in view of the fact that the Land Commission recently purchased part of the lands of Ballingrogy, Riverview, Crossmolina, County Mayo, they will divide those lands among the deserving tenants in the area; and, if so, when.

Possession of these lands will not be obtained by the Land Commission until 1st March next and there will be no avoidable delay in their disposal. The provisions of Section 27, Land Act, 1950, under which the lands were purchased will apply, of course, to their allocation.

Would the Minister tell us what the provisions are, to which he refers, governing the allocation?

The land is to be acquired under the Section for purposes of migration or rearrangement.

May we take it from the Minister's statement that the word "deserving" connotes only those who are set out in the Land Acts as deserving of land and that lands will not be allocated at a public meeting as were merchandise licences?

I do not propose to interpret the Land Acts now for the benefit of the Deputy.

Just stick to the Land Acts and I shall be satisfied.
