Vol. 178 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Cork Postal Deliveries.

26.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the delay in delivery of letters from the following sub-post offices in Cork North:—Dromagh, Clonbannin, Derinagree, Boherbue, Kiskeam, Ballydesmond, Knocknagree and Cullen; and if he will state the cause of the delay in each case.

The delays referred to have come under notice. In each case the cause has been the late running of the train used for conveying mails to Rathcoole whence they are distributed by mail car to the sub-post offices mentioned. The possibility of making alternative distribution arrangements which would not be dependent on this train is being examined.

Would the Minister say is it possible that that arrangement could be made before Christmas because of late deliveries?

I can only say, at this stage, that the matter is being examined and it is hoped that a decision will be reached at the earliest possible moment.
