Vol. 179 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reinstatement of Suspended Veterinary Surgeons.

11.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, as the differences which existed between his Department and the Association of Veterinary Surgeons now appear to be settled, he will consider the reinstatement of the members of that body who were suspended because of carelessness or inexperience in the discharge of their duties, but without any material gain to themselves or to others, so that the services of all qualified veterinary surgeons may be now available to take part in the important and urgent task of the completion as early as possible of the Bovine Tuberculosis Eradication Scheme.

These suspensions, which are relatively few in number, were effected only after full consideration of all the circumstances and for compelling reasons. I do not consider that I would be justified in accepting the Deputy's suggestion, but it is the intention of course to review each case on its merits after an appropriate interval.

What does the Minister consider an appropriate interval?

The facts and circumstances are not the same in each case.
