Vol. 180 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Improvements on Limerick-Shannon Road.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government what progress has been made in regard to carrying out necessary improvements to the Limerick-Shannon road.

Limerick County Council are considering proposals for the improvement of the section of the Limerick-Shannon Airport road within their area. I understand that the Council are experiencing difficulties regarding the acquisition of the lands required and that they may consider proceeding for compulsory acquisition.

As I intimated in reply to a previous question from the Deputy last year, the Clare County Council have been advised that a special grant would be available for the section of the road within their area if suitable proposals were submitted to my Department. Since that time the Council have made considerable progress in the necessary surveys, etc., for the purposes of the scheme. Engineering documents for the first section proposed to be undertaken by the Council at an estimated cost of £38,000 approximately were received in my Department on the 26th ultimo and are at present under examination.
