Vol. 180 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Recreational Facilities for Walkinstown Children.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his attention has been called to the need for the provision of recreational and playing facilities for children in the Walkinstown area, Dublin; and why he refused to receive a deputation from the Walkinstown Social and Athletic Federation to discuss the provision of such facilities.

I have received representations regarding the need for playgrounds and playing fields in the Walkinstown district. The provision of these facilities may be undertaken either by private organisations or by the sanitary authority concerned and I understand that both local interests and the sanitary authority are actively pursuing the issue. I have no functions in the matter until proposals are submitted to me, and it would not be proper for me to intervene. In these circumstances I considered that it would be premature to receive the proposed deputation from a local social and sports organisation. The organisation in question was so informed last month.
