Vol. 180 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Medical Inspections.

10.

asked the Minister for Health what percentage of national schools had school medical inspections carried out in each of the years 1957, 1958 and 1959.

The percentages are 42 per cent. in 1957, 46 per cent. in 1958 and 50 per cent. in 1959.

In my reply on 8th May, 1958, to a similar question by the Deputy I gave the number of schools as returned by local health authorities which had had school health examinations, and the corresponding percentages of all schools, as 2,077 or 43 per cent. in 1955, 2,406 or 49 per cent. in 1956, and 1,931 or 39 per cent. in 1957. Returns subsequently received from those authorities corrected those earlier figures. The correct number of schools which had such examinations, and the relevant percentages, are 2,138 or 44 per cent. in 1955, 2,464 or 51 per cent. in 1956 and 2,051 or 42 per cent. in 1957.
