Vol. 180 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Medical Services Cards: Attendance on Persons Injured in Motor Accident.

6.

asked the Minister for Health if a District Medical Officer is entitled to be paid fees for attendance on (1) a person who is the holder of a General Medical Services Card and (2) a member of the family of such a person whose name is included as such on the Register, where that person or the member of his family have been injured in a motor accident within such district; and further, in the event of such person being taken to hospital, whether any surgeons or other specialists called are likewise so entitled.

The Health Acts and the regulations and arrangements made thereunder provide that no charge shall be made for the medical treatment of a person holding a general services medical card or his dependants where the treatment is provided by the district medical officer of the area or by a surgeon or other specialist in hospital where the patient occupies a bed in a public ward. This is the case no matter what gave rise to the need for treatment.
