External subscriptions to the new Government issues amounted to £2.3 million in 1959. The inflow of private external investment is included in the Balance of Payments Statement under a number of headings. It is clear from the information available that there was a substantial net inflow in 1959, but it is not possible to give a reliable estimate of the total.
