Vol. 181 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Puckaun (Tipperary) Garda Station.

19.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that considerable local concern has been aroused by the proposal to close Puckaun Garda station, Nenagh, County Tipperary; and, if so, whether he will take steps to have the matter reconsidered.

It has been decided to amalgamate the sub-districts of Puckaun and Ballinderry and to provide for the policing of the amalgamated area from a central station to be erected at Coolbawn. This arrangement will result in a saving of manpower and public money without detriment to police efficiency.

The present station will not be closed until the new premises at Coolbawn have been erected.

Will the Minister say what number of Gardaí are in the station proposed to be closed and what number will be in the new station?

I think there are only two. I know there are two in Puckaun and I presume there are two in Ballinderry and these will be amalgamated in the new station.

Is the new station not the station?

The new station at Coolbawn will cover the two, Puckaun and Ballinderry.
