asked the Minister for Local Government the number of houses built with State aid by (a) local authorities and (b) private individuals from 1st January, 1948 to date.

In the period from 1st January, 1948 to 31st March, 1960, 57,182 houses were built with State aid by local authorities and grants under the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Acts were paid in respect of the completion of 49,893 private houses.
