Vol. 181 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - City Quay (Dublin) Area: Amendment of Town Plan.

11.

Mrs. Lynch

andMr. Cummins asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received an application from Dublin Corporation to have the Town Plan amended in order to enable the Corporation to proceed with the building of flats in the City Quay area; and what progress has been made towards the acquisition of property in the area and the clearance of the large number of insanitary dwellings which are still occupied there with a view to the building of flats.

I have received a resolution of Dublin City Council requesting me to modify and amend the Dublin Planning Scheme to permit residential development in the City Quay area.

The question of the acquisition, clearance and re-development for housing purposes of unfit property in this area is one for consideration by the Dublin Corporation in the first instance. I understand that property in the area is being surveyed and referenced by officers of the Corporation and that negotiations for purchase have been opened with property owners.
