Vol. 181 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Traffic Legislation: Effect on Public Service Vehicles.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his attention has been drawn to statements that owners of hackney plates and certain types of public service vehicle (taxis, etc.) will lose their livelihood owing to certain proposals contained in the White Paper on road traffic legislation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The representations submitted by interested persons regarding the recent White Paper on proposals for road traffic legislation include representations from the owners of small public service vehicles to the effect mentioned by the Deputy. The White Paper was published mainly for the purpose of obtaining the views of interested classes and associations on the various proposals contained in it and such views will naturally be considered fully by me and, if necessary, by the Government, before the final form of the legislative proposals is determined. It would be premature to make a more detailed statement on the matter in the meantime.
