Vol. 181 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reconstruction Work at Skerries Harbour.

33.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that Skerries Harbour is too small for the large fishing fleet using the harbour daily, and that boats have been damaged on numerous occasions owing to overcrowding; and, if so, if he will expedite the reconstruction work which is most vital to the fishing industry in the area.

I am aware that on occasion there is some congestion at Skerries harbour but specific cases of damage to boats have not recently been reported to my Department. The question of improvements at this and other harbours is under active consideration and a decision will be taken as soon as possible.

Could the Minister say what does he mean by "active consideration" in this case? I am entitled to an answer to that question.

The Deputy is entitled to ask a question and has been allowed to do so.

Might I ask the Deputy what his view of "active consideration" is?

Is the Minister aware that we were told yesterday in the House that there was a fund of £100,000 to be spent on piers in Donegal? That does not indicate that there is any active consideration for the other parts of the country.

That is an entirely separate question.
