Vol. 181 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Holders of Insurance Cards in Drogheda.

3.

asked the Taoiseach the number of persons holding insurance cards on 1st January (or on the nearest available date) in the years 1956 to 1960, inclusive, in the town of Drogheda.

Data are not available for the number of persons holding Social Welfare Insurance Cards who reside in any particular area of the country and the information requested by the Deputy is not, therefore, available.

It is, however, possible to state the number of Social Welfare Insurance Cards exchanged and issued in each insurance year in respect of each local office of the Department of Social Welfare. These totals for the Drogheda Employment Exchange include both the work handled by the staff of the Exchange and by the Agents of the Department for which Drogheda is the Appointed Office. The figures include, therefore, returns for a considerable area outside the town of Drogheda. I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement showing the number of insurance cards current (exchanged and issued) in respect of the Drogheda Employment Exchange, for males for the insurance years ended January 1956 to January 1960 and for females for the insurance years ended July 1956 lo July 1959.

Following is the statement:—

*The decline between the years ended January 1957 and January 1958 is attributable to an alteration in respect of the method of dealing with the Impressed Stamping Scheme which involved a transfer from this exchange, of cards in respect of Meath County Council employees.
