Vol. 182 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilmainham Courts.

13.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice the number of special courts, in addition to the scheduled courts, in respect of Kilmainham District Court in each of the last three years.

The information required by the Deputy is as follows: 1957, 7; 1958, 16; 1959, 26.

14.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the serious inconvenience and hardship being caused to the general public by reason of the inadequate number of district courts being held to deal with the large volume of business in the Kilmainham district; and whether he will take steps to reorganise the court arrangements in that area to provide more frequent regular courts.

The question of increasing the number of appointed sittings of the District Court at Kilmainham has been under consideration for some time and it is hoped to make an Order shortly providing for more frequent sittings.

15.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice (a) the number of cases listed for hearing and (b) the number of adjournments of such cases in respect of Kilmainham District Court in each of the last three years.

The information required by the Deputy in regard to the number of cases listed for hearing is as follows:—

1957

8,267

1958

8,644

1959

8,979

Statistics are not kept of the number of adjournments and the information sought could not be compiled without an undue expenditure of public time.
