Vol. 182 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bills Introduced by the Minister for Justice.

16.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice the number of Bills introduced by him into either House of the Oireachtas in each year since 1956.

Since I assumed office as Minister for Justice on 20th March, 1957, I have been responsible for the introduction of the following number of Bills:—

In the Dáil:

In 1957—4; in 1958—3, one of which was subsequently discharged; in 1959—7, and in 1960—2, one of which was discharged for introduction in the Seanad.

In the Seanad:

One in 1960.

I may add that a larger legislative programme would have been desirable and will now be practicable as a result of the assistance provided by the appointment of a Parliamentary Secretary for my Department.
