Vol. 182 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Sligo Lands.

16.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a couple of months ago, the Gillooley lands, Cooper Estate, Toberbride, Collooney, County Sligo, were for sale by private treaty, and that a number of uneconomic holders residing on the Estatehad applied to the Land Commission for the acquisition and sub-division of these lands; and why no action was taken to carry out the wishes of those concerned prior to the purchase of the lands by a private bidder.

Representations were made to the Land Commission on 16th March, 1960, urging the acquisition of these lands which were advertised for sale. On investigation, it was found that a sale to a local purchaser had already been arranged.

This is a small vested holding of 39 statute acres and the owner had a right of free sale.
