Vol. 182 No. 2

Written Answer. - North Kerry Schools.

25.

asked the Minister for Education the present position and full details regarding proposals for (a) the building of new schools and (b) the renovation of existing schools in the North Kerry constituency area or in County Kerry as a whole.

The position in regard to the building of new schools and the renovation of existing schools in county Kerry is as follows:

(1) Vocational Schools:

Rathmore (New Vocational School).

In July last I authorised the County Kerry Vocational Education Committee to proceed with the erection of a new three room vocational school at Rathmore. It is understood that the work is now nearing completion, and it is expected that the new school will be ready for use at the commencement of the session 1960/61.

Listowel (New Vocational School).

The Committee have recently approved of revised sketch plans for this project (providing for nine classrooms) and it is understood that these revised sketch plans will be submitted to my Department at an early date.

Cahirciveen (New Vocational School).

I am approving of sketch plans for a four-room school at Cahirciveen and am authorising the preparation of lay-out drawings.

Causeway Vocational School (Extension).

On the 7th May, 1960, I authorised the Committee to invite tenders for the extension of Causeway V.S. to provide a metalwork room, an engineering annexe and a store.

Killarney Vocational School (Extension).

On the 27th February, 1960, I approved of sketch-plans for the proposed extension of Killarney Vocational School and at the same time I authorised the preparation of lay-out drawings. The lay-out drawings have recently been submitted to my Department and are at present under consideration. The work consists of an extension to provide two new classrooms, a new sanitary block and stores, together with some alterations to the existing building.
