Vol. 182 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages of Land Commission Workers and Gangers.

22.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to increase the wages of Land Commission manual workers and gangers with a view to bringing their scale of remuneration into line with that of other comparable workers.

Since 1951, Land Commission labourers have been remunerated at the rate of wages payable to county council road-workers; however, an Incentive Bonus Scheme, similar to that in operation in the State Forests, is now being extended to Land Commission workers. From the commencement of the present financial year, the wages of Land Commission workers are in parity with basic wage rates applicable to forestry workers; in 23 counties, that has meant increases ranging from 1s. 6d. to 12s. 6d. per week and, in the remaining three counties, current workers suffer no loss in their present earnings.
