Vol. 182 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blacksod (Mayo) Slip.

4.

asked the Minister for Finance the date on which moneys were sanctioned by his Department for the erection of a slip at Blacksod, County Mayo, and the date on which the Mayo County Council agreed to maintain the said slip when completed.

As stated by my predecessor in reply to a Question by the Deputy on the 24th April, 1957, an offer of a grant from the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote towards the cost of a slip at Blacksod was made to the Mayo County Council on the 2nd March, 1957. The offer was subject to the usual conditions attached by this Office to grants of this nature, viz., that the County Council would contribute one quarter of the cost and would accept responsibility for the future maintenance of the work when completed.

The matter was considered at the County Council meeting on 29th June, 1957, when it was decided to take no action. I am advised that the Mayo County Council considered the proposal further at a special meeting held on 28th September, 1957, and decided to make a request to the Department of the Gaeltacht for a full-cost grant. No further action in the matter has, therefore, since been taken by my Office.
