Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice the total number of members and officers of the Garda Síochána who provided a guard of honour for the Tánaiste on Sunday, 22nd May last at Collinstown Airport on the occasion of his return from the United States of America, the cost of providing the guard of honour, the number of hours spent in providing it and the duties from which the Gardaí concerned were removed in order to provide the guard of honour.

The Guard of Honour consisted of 1 Superintendent, 1 Inspector, 1 Sergeant and 13 Gardaí. The guard was provided in the ordinary course of duty, the performance of which involved absences from nearby stations ranging from 1½ to 2½ hours and an expenditure of a few shillings in respect of travelling expenses.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice the regulations governing the provision of a guard of honour by the Garda Síochána to Ministers of State, and the number of occasions in the past year on which such a guard was provided.

Guards of Honour are provided by the Garda Síochána for the Taoiseach, Tánaiste and Minister for Justice on occasions of a formal nature. The number of occasions in the past year on which such a guard was provided is 27.
