Vol. 182 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Galway Lands.

29.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a holding of land owned by Thomas Collins at Park West and Timard, Clonberne, Ballinasloe, County Galway, has been bought by private treaty; and if in view of the local congestion in the area the Land Commission will urgently consider the propriety of acquiring this land.

The question of acquiring this holding which comprises about 16 acres was considered by the Land Commission last year. On investigation, it was found that the lands had been sold to an industrious local small-holder of 14 acres, and the Land Commission then decided to take no further action towards acquisition.

30.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have yet acquired the Satchwell Estate, Creggs, County Galway; and when he expects that it will be allotted to the uneconomic holders in the area.

Proceedings for acquisition of 291 acres at Creggans and Gortnalavey on this estate were instituted by the Land Commission early in 1959. However, these proceedings terminated in January last when owners' objection was allowed following a public hearing.
