Vol. 182 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rearrangement of Townlands on Kilmaine (Mayo) Estate.

9.

asked the Minister for Lands when the final rearrangement and settlement of the townlands of Ballinhoe and Bohogue, on the Kilmaine Estate, County Mayo, will be accomplished.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply to his previous Question on 10th December last. The Land Commission are prepared to undertake rearrangement of holdings and associated improvement works in these townlands, provided the necessary cooperation from the tenants concerned is forthcoming. If the tenants indicate their willingness to co-operate with the Land Commission—a factor which, as the Deputy is aware, is an essential prerequisite to a voluntary scheme of this nature—formulation of rearrangement proposals will be put in hands without delay—possibly this year.

Is the Minister aware that the tenants notified their willingness to co-operate long before last Spring and that the Land Commission do not appear to be doing anything?

That is not so.

On a point of order, Sir, for the record, is it not proper for a Minister, when answering on behalf of another Minister, to say so? I understand that the Minister is answering for another Minister.
