I have asked local authorities generally to investigate the needs of their areas in the matter of water supplies and sewerage. I understand that, as a result, the need for an extension of the Mountmellick Scheme is to be considered by Laois County Council, but I have not yet been given any information as to the degree of demand for an extension or as to the areas which it would serve.
