Vol. 182 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Tipperary Rivers.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance when the drainage of the River Anner will be completed; and if he is aware of the great damage to nearby lands caused by the flooding of this river and the high mortality among livestock as a result of deposits of a somewhat poisonous nature which follow the flooding.

8.

asked the Minister for Finance when the survey of the River Suir will take place, the approximate period which it will take to complete it, and the approximate date on which he hopes that drainage will commence.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance when the drainage of the Aherlow and Fidoucta Rivers will commence; and if he is aware of the serious disadvantages which dairy farmers in the area are subjected to because of the constant and serious flooding.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to take questions Nos. 7, 8 and 9 together.

All the rivers mentioned are in the Suir catchment area, a survey of which was commenced recently. It will be several years before the survey of this very extensive catchment can be completed and a drainage scheme prepared under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. At this stage I cannot give a date.
