Vol. 182 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Non-Allocation of Tourist Road Grant to Wexford.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government why Wexford has not been allocated a tourist road grant or any other special road grant in view of the high tourist potential of this county and the fact that Rosslare Harbour is an important port of entry for tourists with motor cars.

The scheme of Tourist Road Grants was introduced eight years ago as an eight-years' programme to improve roads in the Gaeltacht and congested areas which are located in or leading to places of high tourist value. County Wexford did not come within the delimitations of that scheme.

Could the Minister indicate why?

Because it does not come within the delimitations.

Gaeltacht and congested areas—all roads located in or leading to such places.

Does the tourist grant apply only to Gaeltacht areas?

Not necessarily.

Could the Minister indicate why Wexford got no tourist grant? It seems a simple question.

I am afraid I cannot help the Deputy further.
