Vol. 182 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Overtime of Cork Postmen.

20.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of postmen in County Cork whose total number of hours of overtime during the 1959 Christmas season as certified by local postal officials was reduced by his Department, and the total number of hours so affected.

The question appears to imply a misunderstanding of the procedure governing the grant of overtime payment to postmen during the Christmas pressure season. There are regulation limits, of general application throughout the country, governing the overtime payable to a delivery postman for each day of the pressure period and for the period as a whole. Information regarding the extent by which extra attendances claimed by postmen serving in County Cork during the 1959 Christmas season exceeded the amounts allowable under the standard regulations is not readily available and to extract it would involve disproportionate expenditure of staff time. If, however, the Deputy has any particular case or cases in mind I shall be glad to look into the circumstances if he will let me have the requisite details.
